Privacy Policy for Digitify Books

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose your information when you use our mobile application, Digitify Books (the "App").
1. Information We Process On-Device
Our app is designed with a "Local-First" approach. The following data is processed and stored entirely on your device and is never uploaded to our servers or any third-party cloud storage:
- Images and Photos: Processed locally via ML Kit to extract text.
- Voice and Audio: Audio recordings and transcribed text are stored locally.
- Extracted Content: All notes, scanned text, and recordings reside in the app's private internal storage.
2. Optional Cloud Integration (User-Initiated)
The App provides optional features that allow you to upload your data to third-party cloud storage services (Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive). These features are only activated if you explicitly choose to sign in and upload files.
- Google Drive: If you use the Google Drive upload feature, the App will request access to your Google Drive to save and read files within its own folder. This data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Dropbox: If you use the Dropbox upload feature, the App will request access to your Dropbox account to upload files. This data is governed by the Dropbox Privacy Policy.
- OneDrive: If you use the OneDrive upload feature, the App will request access to your Microsoft account to upload files. This data is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
We do not store your cloud credentials. Authentication is handled directly by the respective providers using OAuth tokens stored securely on your device.
Data Retention & Performance: To maintain optimal app performance and manage device storage, the App will prompt you every 30 days to clear old recordings and data. This clearing only occurs with your explicit consent.
2. Data Collected by Third-Party Services
While we do not host your personal content, we use Google Firebase and Google Analytics to monitor app health and improve user experience. These services may collect certain identifiers for functional purposes:
- Identifiers: Google Analytics and Firebase may collect your Advertising ID, FCM ID (Firebase Cloud Messaging), and Android ID to provide analytics, handle push notifications, and prevent fraud.
- Usage Data: Anonymous information such as device type, OS version, app crashes, and feature engagement.
3. App Permissions
The App requests the following permissions to function:
- CAMERA: To capture documents for text recognition.
- RECORD_AUDIO: To provide voice-to-text transcription features.
- READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / STORAGE: To allow you to import existing documents or photos from your gallery.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS: To send you alerts regarding your recordings, processing status, or critical app updates.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE / MEDIA_PLAYBACK: To ensure continuous text-to-speech (TTS) playback and background processing of your documents.
- INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: To enable app analytics, crash reporting, and cloud-based features like translation.
4. How We Use Information
We use the identifiers (Advertising ID, Android ID) and usage data solely to:
- Analyze app performance and fix technical bugs.
- Deliver critical app updates via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Optimize the user interface based on aggregated, non-identifiable usage trends.
Note: We do not store, sell, or rent your personal documents or recordings to anyone.
5. Third-Party Services
- Google ML Kit: On-device processing; no data is sent to Google servers.
- Google Firebase/Analytics: Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
